Presenting LUN to server running Command View EVA

I was using SMA to manage EVA in my previous projects. I know that it wasn't supported to present LUN from EVA to SMA server.

Now in the new project I want to run Command View EVA on general purpuse server to whome I have presented EVA LUN.

Is it now supported to present EVA LUN to the server running Command View EVA?

Goran:

Since the driver on the general purpose server is the full hba driver, not the light version like on the SMA, sure you can present a LUN. I do not see any support issues here.

Is it possible to upgrade the driver on the SMA to the full version and therefore able to present disk to the SMA?

Re: Presenting LUN to server running Command View EVA

Craig,
there was a driver update for the SMA some time ago, but I didn't have to touch any SMAs since then so I have not bothered with its contents.

Don't know if it is supported to put a "standard driver" on the SMA, but please don't forget that CV-EVA needs access to the master controller and this role might change over time, so you better leave all paths enabled.

On the other hand: multiple paths means you now need a multipath driver on your SMA, too!!

And that applies to a general purpose server as well...

Goran; Assuming that the exisitng SMA meets the hradware requirments then you might think about going through the effort to re-image the SMA to a full 2000/2003 Windows OS. Just a thought. This would be better then modifiing the current bits on your SAM.
Now is the time to shine.

Craig:

I had a friend do that last week while on site as he was just clearing out some EVA's and he lost connectivity to the storage from the SAM. Not sure what he did to get it back yet, but I don;t think it works right. Definitely not supported.
