Hello colleagues,
I'd like your opinion about the installation of a VA71xx in a clustered environment ...
Are there any configurations to do?
Is it more or less complex in respect to the SC10?
what's the additional hardware on the HP9000 server?
thanks
Enrico

Re: VA71xx installation complexity
Enrico,
additional hardware: FC switch/hub, FC HBAs, FC cables. It's not so complex. As soon as you'll manage OS to see VA LUNs you can do with them whatever you want as they are locally attached SCSI disks.
The things to pay attention to:
- VA should have LUN 0;
- check host port behavior to be hpux;
- set VA to work in correct port mode: fabric with switch and loop with hub.
If you'll add more non-hpux hosts then procedure of corse more compex (for another thread, with certain customer requirements).
Please refer to VA manuals at http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DocumentIndex.jsp?contentType=SupportManual&docIndexId=3124&locale=en_US&prodSeriesId=33737&prodTypeId=12169
Eugeny
PS. If you're in doubt I remember you can buy HP service named like "SAN installation and configuration".

Solution
Yes, this PCI 2GB FC host bus adapter is compatible with these devices.
VA is capable of wotking in fabric (N) using 2GB/s speed, although DS2405 can work only in public (NL) or private (L) loop.
If you have DS2405 bundled (connected) to Virtual Array then only VA should be connected to the switch, but all DS2405s are 'back end' to VA and managed by VA controllers' firmware
