HPE Munch & Learn #4: Building a foundation for zero trust with SPIFFE

HPE Munch & Learn #4 - Building a foundation for zero trust with SPIFFE

Apr 21, 2021 06:00 PM Paris

Speaker: Daniel Feldman, principal security software engineer, HPE and Frederick Kautz, head of Edge Infrastructure at Doc.ai

Abstract: Enterprise application or software services are increasingly running across multiple platforms spanning multiple data centers and public clouds. Since these services span various domains, the most efficient way to secure them is by a Zero Trust model. In this model, nothing is taken for granted, and every request has to be verified. Service identity and authentication is perhaps the most fundamental piece of building Zero Trust environments. If not done right and early, it could undermine your efforts to enable Zero Trust in your organization and introduce risk, complexity, and slow down development velocity.

CNCF’s SPIFFE and SPIRE projects provide a universal service identity plane managing identity and trust within a zero trust security model. These projects provide a system for service to identify and authenticate themselves without the use of shared-secrets or network base security controls.

Join us in this webcast with industry expert to learn

  • The role of authentication within a zero trust security model
  • The design goals of SPIFFE and SPIRE Projects
  • The benefits you can achieve by adopting SPIFFE and SPIRE
  • How SPIFFE and SPIRE interact with emerging tools such as Open Policy Agent (OPA) and Network Service Mesh (NSM) to enable end to end trust across your environment

HPE Munch & Learn #6 - Microservices Architecture 101

Don't miss our next Munch & Learn session: HPE Munch & Learn #6 - Microservices Architecture 101

Time: Jun 30, 2021 05:00 PM (CET)
Speaker: Owen Garrett, Deepfence.io
Host: Didier Lalli, HPE
Registration: https://hpe.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJIlf-isqjgjH9bv-oJW2dv_5DMM6i2FV-WA

Abstract: The shift towards microservices has helped to accelerate software development and empower some of today’s most popular apps – including containers and Kubernetes. But since microservices can refer to both a software architecture used to build large, complex apps from multiple small components as well as the term for the components themselves, there remains a good deal of confusion around the term.

In this "Microservices 101" Munch & Learn, we’ll introduce you to microservices in a way that will give you a working understanding of the technology:
- What microservices are and how they enable faster, more agile apps
- How they pertain to container and Kubernetes technologies
- What a service mesh is and whether or not you need one
- Why production-grade solutions reduce costs and save time

HPE DEV Munch & Learn #7: How to make data consumable for real world data science

Speakers: Ellen Friedman, Ted Dunning
Host: Frederic Passeron, HPE

Time: July 28, 2021 05:00 PM Paris

Registration Link: https://hpe.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJwudeuorzosG9ctDE4IcuBhiNRk3L-z_Z1B

Abstract:

Data science starts with data. Gathering and storing large data sets is an important aspect, but incorporating data into useful processes is where the real magic lies. You need practical ways to make data consumable in real world situations. The challenge becomes even greater when you work with diverse but mismatched data sets and teams - but the rewards are substantial as well.

This talk explores challenges and solutions for data gathering and methods for cross-normalization of diverse data sets, including socio-economic, plus temporal, data. The presenters will also show how just a few words in communication between data scientists and domain experts can vastly change the scope and impact of a project, and provide tips for how you can avoid pitfalls.

This session, while consumable by non-data scientists, should provide some tasty technical tidbits for more experienced data scientists. Please join us for this munchable topic!

Remember Munch & Learn sessions are open to everyone – customers, partners, and HPE employees, so please spread the word and feel free to invite your customers, partners and colleagues if you see a good fit.

Thanks,

HPE DEV team

Digital Transformation.Next: Data & Analytics Workloads

HPE Munch & Learn #9: Digital Transformation.Next: Data & Analytics Workloads

Time: Sep 22, 2021 05:00 PM CET

Speakers:
Matt Maccaux, Global Field CTO – HPE Ezmeral
Randy Thomasson, Global Field Solutions Architect - HPE Ezmeral

Abstract: Digital transformation is a process that has been occurring for decades. Organizations who have accomplished the digitization of processes and modernization of technical assets are now looking at the next set of workloads and processes to modernize. For many, the next phase of this journey relates to Data and Analytics. Did they save the best for last? Or is it the worst? Data and Analytics workloads are tough. Data is said to have “gravity” and the systems are huge, hulking monoliths, making modernization especially difficult.

During this session, Randy Thomasson and Matt Maccaux will discuss where many of these organizations are today and where they want to go (hint: something cloud), but don’t really know how to get there. The discussion will weave bits of strategic best practices and practical architectural details.

Registration Link: https://hpe.zoom.us/webinar/register/7416397378155/WN_JLPveMmYSOWd1Mn-7bU62Q

Abstract: With 74% of operational data at the Edge, location matters now more than ever. Whether it’s in the hospital, factory, or retail location, you need to be able to act on data in real time. This requires a decentralized IT strategy where computing is deployed at the Edge, as close to data as possible.

Being able to distribute computing to the Edge has given rise to new IT modernization strategies, pivoting from centralized to geo-distributed, real-time computing. In this session, NVIDIA and HPE partner to help you accelerate your success at the Edge while enjoying a friction-free distributed cloud experience across Edge, Core, and multi-cloud. Register now to learn how you can benefit from this data-first, Edge-in revolution as Denis Vilfort from HPE and William Benton from NVIDIA describe the use of GPU accelerated Apache Spark, HPE Ezmeral Data Fabric, and the HPE GreenLake edge-to-cloud platform.

Why Open Source is more than Software: The example of The Linux Foundation's AgStack project

Speakers:
Ted Dunning, CTO for Data Fabric at HPE and developer at AgStack
Sumer Johal, AgStack Founder

Date/Time: May 18, 2022 05:00 PM CET (8AM PT)

Registration: https://hpe.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_L-HJRIRPQ0CQoIotnCiDJg

Abstract: AgStack is pioneering a new kind of open source. Rather than just distributing software and expecting users to build a working system or just distributing data and expecting users to find it and understand it, AgStack has introduced the idea of providing an open service.

The goal of AgStack is to foster the emerging industry of digitally enhanced-agriculture. The initial services being offered include a way to register geo-polygons (that is, fields) to access historical and predicted weather for any location, and to directly use a wide variety of ag-related models covering, for instance, pest emergence and plant maturation. All of these services are easily accessible via web interfaces and are intended to make it easier to build services that help farmers. More services are on the way as well.

Ultimately, AgStack wants to bridge the gap between researchers and public data providers on one side and farmers, agricultural extension agents, and agricultural companies on the other.
