Create Window VM fail when from VMware to HPE Essentials for Simplivity
I have followed this guild to prepare a Windows 2022 VM.
I export a VMDK file from VMware and then upload it to VME.
However, I create new VM sources using VMDK files, When Deploy done, console always shows “No bootable device.”
HPE VME for Simplivity only support 8.0.7, so i cann't use migration tool.
I’ve tried change sda to vda, but it still doesn’t work.

Re: Create Window VM fail when from VMware to HPE Essentials for Simplivity
Tested with HPE Morpheus VM Essentials 8.0.7.
Could it be that the firmware on the pre-migration (VMware) system is set to “UEFI”?
Looking at the screenshot, the firmware on the virtual machine in HPE Morpheus VM Essentials appears to be set to BIOS. That's why I thought it might be failing.
■Overview
・Guest OS: Windows Server 2025
・Pre-migration (VMware) firmware: “UEFI”
・The following actions were completed prior to migration:
→ Added viostor and vioscsi to the boot start drivers.
→ VirtIO drivers and qemu guest agent installed.
■Virtual Image Settings (Successful Pattern)
※ Checking “SECURE BOOT” is meaningless as it is not supported.
※ “vTPM Enabled” appears to become active when “UEFI” is checked.
※Checking to ensure the firmware is set to “EFI”.
<When Starting the Virtual Machine>
■Virtual Image Settings (Failed Pattern)
※ The difference from the successful pattern is that “UEFI” is not checked.
※ If the “EFI” checkbox is not selected, the firmware appears to default to BIOS.
<When Starting the Virtual Machine>
※Apologies if this is difficult to understand due to machine translation.

Re: Create Window VM fail when from VMware to HPE Essentials for Simplivity
Thanks for the reply, but I tried again and it still failed.
My ESXi VM settings overview:
- Windows Server 2022
- Firmware set to BIOS(UEFI)
- Vioscsi drivers installed
- Virtio agent installed
Finished prepare VM, then export OVF
Next i upload the .vmdk on Virtual image
Only check VIRTIO DRIVER LOADED and UEFI
Then Create a VM with this vmdk When Deploy Step Failed
Are there any other recommendations?
Thanks.

Re: Create Window VM fail when from VMware to HPE Essentials for Simplivity
Based on the screenshot,
・The firmware is set to “BIOS” in the VMware virtual machine settings.
・It is set to “UEFI” in HVM.
I'm concerned that these are not matching.
Also, I recall seeing a post in the past about issues occurring when the machine type changed in HVM, though I forget if it was 8.0.7.
That's all I can think of for now. I hope the HPE team can assist.
