What is the OS of Oneview Appliance
Does OVA run any OS? Does anyone know what is the OS of the Oneview Appliance?

Re: What is the OS of Oneview Appliance
It is an HPE customized and secured Linux varient; specifically CentOS. Customers have no control over the OS or the internals of the applinace, so I'd like to understand why your customer is asking?

Perhaps a security scanner is making assumptions based on what it thinks is the OS version?

Re: What is the OS of Oneview Appliance
I think the question is perfectly valid.
In my case I wish to know so that I am able to select the correct version of Linux for my SCVMM implimentation.
The OVA I have is a hyper-v VM and in SCVMM you should indicate the base os for correct installation of "Virtual Guest Services".

Re: What is the OS of Oneview Appliance
The Hyper-V appliance already has the Linux Integration Services installed. The appliance is not manageable by customers. You can select RHEL or CentOS as the OS type for MSSC-VMM. But, you really should be importing the appliance VM, which would help define that for you already.

Re: What is the OS of Oneview Appliance
Thank you for you quick response.
I have 2 instances of the appliance running on my HyperV cluster manage with SCVMM. (one for acceptance, and one for production, in different VLANs).
Not only I don't see the Operating System, but I don't see the IP Address neither. (VM additions are deteced). Would you know how I can have SCVMM be aware of the IP ? Which Version of CentOS shhould I select ? 5 64bit, 6 64bit, 7 64bit, 7.3 64bit, 5 32bit, 6 32bit ?)

Re: What is the OS of Oneview Appliance
Not only I don't see the Operating System, but I don't see the IP Address neither.
That is a limitation of the Hyper-V Linux Integration Services with RHEL/CentOS 6, which is what our appliance today is based on. It is a 64-bit OS. The decleration is only applicable to help with LIS deployments, not the operational state of the appliance.

Re: What is the OS of Oneview Appliance
Hi Chris!
According to Microsoft documentation, this feature is available for CentOS 6.x--but that might require a little tuning.
From this table, we actually care about two rows. One is titled "Static IP Injection" and the other is "Key-Value Pair" (that's the component which actually should report the IP address.) For some scenarios, the latter calls out Footnote 12.
Hence, based on my understanding, any option from the below migh help.
- Maybe the "hypervkvpd" or "hyperv-daemons" are already installed in the appliance? Is there any way to check and start them manually if needed?
- If not, is there an option to install these packages from CentOS media or repository, as Footnote 12 advises?
- Alternatively, is there an option to install LIS 4.2 package from Microsoft? Because the column specific to LIS 4.2 does not include Footnote 12, and hence it's supposed to work out of the box.
So, do we have any options here? Thanks in advance!

Re: What is the OS of Oneview Appliance
Hi @PhS-
On the "you cant see the DHCP IP address", are you able to go the VM console, do an FTS (first time appliance setup)?
That is a known limitation with the hyper-V appliance with DHCP IP.

Bhaskar

Re: What is the OS of Oneview Appliance
I am looking into this. The documentation you provided @PhS-, isn't clear, and I'm reaching out to some folks at Microsoft to get clarification.

@ChrisLynch , I understand this takes some time, but have you been able to contact "folks at Microsoft" ?
