Migrate VM on simplivity gen10 to gen11
I currently have a SimpliVity 380 Gen10 2-node cluster running version 4.1.2.162. If I plan to order a SimpliVity 380 Gen11 2-node cluster, are there any potential challenges or concerns I should be aware of when migrating all VMs from the Gen10 to the Gen11 environment?

Re: Migrate VM on simplivity gen10 to gen11
Hi
migration will be done using VMware vmotion
because you will probably install a new federation.
so there should not be any problem.you should consider VMware licensing
and EVC if you plan to do online migration.
Regards
Give a KUDO if this helps

Re: Migrate VM on simplivity gen10 to gen11
Your Gen10 cluster is on 4.1.2.162, which is quite dated compared to Gen11 systems that typically ship with 5.3.x or 6.0.0 firmware.
You’ll likely need to upgrade your Gen10 cluster to at least 5.3.1.8 to ensure interoperability with Gen11 nodes.
Use the HPE SimpliVity Upgrade Planner to map out a safe upgrade path.
Ensure both clusters are running compatible ESXi versions (e.g., 7.0 or 8.0) to support cross-cluster VM mobility.
Review release notes or compatibility matrices provided by HPE SimpliVity for any differences between the Gen10 and Gen11 platforms.
Use SimpliVity’s native tools for VM migration rather than external methods, as these tools ensure deduplication, compression, and efficient data transfers.
Before starting the migration, ensure all VMs are backed up. Validate all configurations and networking settings.
Check VM performance after migration because Gen11 hardware has faster CPUs and storage.
Verify that your SimpliVity licenses will transfer correctly to the Gen11 environment. Some features or licensing models may have changed between Gen10 and Gen11 systems.
You may check with HPE SimpliVity support for any specific recommendations or requirements for the migration.
Regards,
Sanika.
