Upgrading SimpliVity federation with Gen9 and Gen10 hosts
Hi
I just want to check I've correctly understood the upgrade paths for a couple of SimpliVity clusters within a single federation.
I currently have 2 clusters both running SimpliVity 4.0.1, however, One cluster has 2 x DL325 Gen10 hosts and the other cluster has 2 x DL380 Gen9 hosts. All hosts are running VMware 6.7U3b.
I want to upgrade both clusters to the latest supported SimpliVity versions and also both clusters to VMware 7.0U3.
I also plan to first upgrade the firmware to the latest SSP (2202_08.02.01) for ALL hosts
I believe the Gen10 cluster can be upgraded to directly to 4.1.2, but the Gen9 hosts can only go to 4.1.0U1 as Gen9 do not support later versions of SimpliVity.
I know that a federation can exist with clusters running different SimpliVity versions (which I will need due to the Gen9 cluster) but not sure if there are any specific actions I need to follow to achieve this.
Do I need to upgrade both clusters to 4.1.0U1 first and then 'commit' this version before then upgrading the DL325 Gen10 hosts to 4.1.2
OR
Can I upgrade the Gen10 hosts to 4.1.2 first, commit this version, and then upgrade the Gen9 hosts just to 4.1.0U1?
Thanks

Re: Upgrading SimpliVity federation with Gen9 and Gen10 hosts
Hi CadenLange
Hope you are doing well.
I would suggest you go with the second option which is "upgrading the Gen10 hosts to 4.1.2 first, commit this version, and then upgrade the Gen9 hosts just to 4.1.0U1"
Hope this helps.!

Mahesh
