HPE Synergy 480 Gen 10 - PXE Server 2016 fails on bcdboot
Hi there first post here, hopefully I'm in the right location
We have a known good working SCCM current branch task sequence that basically formats a drive and installs Windows Server 2016, joins the domain and a couple other steps. It works on all of our hardware except some new HPE Synergy Gen 10 blades with SAN storage through QLogic HPAs.
For these blades, it PXEs (very slowly but it works), downloads and applies the OS, and right at the end of apply os, it errors out with the generic 80004005. going in to SMSTS.log the relevant part is:
Starting to apply image 1 from myserverimage.wim to C:\
Applying image to C:\
Applying image 1
Successfully applied image to C:\
System root for target OK is C:\Windows, System drive is C:
OSArchitecture=X64

Successfully loaded a source BCD boot system

Command line for extension .exe is "%1" %*
Set command line: "bcdboot.exe" C:\Windows /l en-US
Executing command line: "bcdboot.exe" C:\Windows /l en-US with options (0, 4)
Process completed with exit code 15250
uExitCode == 0, HRESULT=80004005 (..\bcdbooter.cpp,88)
Bcdboot failed! bcdboot.exe C:\Windows /l en-US failed (15250)
------------------------------------------------------
if i manually run the same bcdboot command with /verbose it shows:
BFSVC error: failed to get system partition! Last Error = 0x3b92
BFSVC error: ServicingBootFiles failed. Error - 0x3b92
Failure when attempting to copy boot files
--------------------------------------------------------
I'm able to read and write to the C drive, but for whatever reason can't make it bootable.
I've followed the HPE UEFI/setup guides and everything seems to be in order, also no luck finding anyone else running into the same issue so kind of stumped and hoping for some help while we get ready to open a ticket with HPE.
thanks!

Re: HPE Synergy 480 Gen 10 - PXE Server 2016 fails on bcdboot
Hello
The partition type is depend on the Boot mode selected.
could you try change the Boot mode and check
Alternatively could you try to install the OS from the DVD instead of using the SCCM
Regards

Hi,
Please check by changing the boot options.
