Failed to insert new disk into HPE Integrity rx2800 i2 Server

I'm using 02 HPE Integrity rx2800 i2 Servers. Each of them is running two hard disks in RAID10 configuration.

I'd like to add one more disk to server, of course not into the exsisting RAID10.

I was succesful in inserting disk to first server, but It failed when doing with second server.

The server didn't boot at an early state. May be the RAID controller was stalling when scanning the bus for harddisks and preventing the host from booting. I guess so.

I didn't see any alarms.

I have tried with another disk, but the same status.

I did the following steps to insert new disk:

- Insert new disk to server.

- Shutdown server.
- Reboot server and enter EFI shell
- Use drvcfg command to enter RAID configuration tool. ( the command is 'drvcfg -s 9a 9c')
- Select the new unused harddisk from the menu driven interface and and add it to the RAID controller
- Boot the server as normal, but cannot boot.

Does anyone know the reason, and how can I troubleshoot?

Thanks.

Re: Failed to insert new disk into HPE Integrity rx2800 i2 Server

Hi,

Could you please share more info, where exactly the system fails to boot?

Is the system reaching EFI shell now or is it not even reaching EFI shell?

If not reaching EFI shell, does it hang while scanning for devices (when you select s) and stops there.

If yes, try these below steps (if not done earlier).

1.Remove all disks and check if system can reach EFI shell  successfully (reset 2-3 times and ensure every time it can reach EFI shell)

2.If success, insert only one boot disk and see if it can enter EFI shell.

3.If yes , try to boot from that disk.If fails try the procedure with another boot disk (one at a time).

4.If system does not reach EFI shell even after removing all disks, you have option to bypass IO drivers  while booting and verify.

Refer : https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=emr_na-c03121504

5.If can reach EFI shell w/o IO drivers, then can remove IO cards and test (firt thing, you can remove all external IO connectivity and test as well)

6.If not reaching EFI shell w/o loading IO drivers (or) without disks/IO cards, then might be an issue with HW and please open a support case for validation.

Re: Failed to insert new disk into HPE Integrity rx2800 i2 Server

Hi,

Sorry for late response.

I have not yet performed the steps you provided I was too busy.

Beside that my servers are operating on rack so I must plan carefuly the tests in order not to affect to server.

I will do the test and revert back to you soon.
