upgrade NBX100 from 4.1.71 to 6.0.63

Folks - just now found out that 3com is opening up the availability to maintain your own NBX100, and get docs, software, etc. Local resellers are simply recommending a server upgrade, and I'd like to explore upgrading this server first.



I have small setup - an NBX100 with 6 phones and some really old OS - 4.1.71. I'm very computer literate, but a phone system newbie. I was interested in upgrading the OS on this box in hopes of getting more and more stable features. Specifically, I want better off site notification so our engineers can loose the pagers and get SMS notifications to cells, or better voice mail notifications to cells.



Is this a worthwhile endeavor, or is this more trouble than it's worth? Thanks!

Can you upgrade ur NBX to R6_0_63 but in the first you must make backup including your NBX Licenses and after that you can restor the Database only on the new Version

Mohamed - thanks! my reading of the release notes indicated that you must do several intermediate upgrades in between - first to 4.3, then 5, then 6. Docs also indicate that my current license string will need to be changed to a format suited to version 6. Has this been you experience?

That is correct . You need to follow the upgrade process for the database . If you do not have a database or you choose to rebuild it then just install the 6.0.63 software and rebuild your db . However , If you would like to take your Db from R4.1.71 , then you MUsT go to :

R4.2 then to R4.3 then to R5.0 then to R6.0 . Make sure that you have 64 meg of memory in the NBX 100 as well . There are feature upgrades as well as fixes in OffSiteNotify . Please read the R5.0 and the R6.0 manuals and Notes as they have the latest info in re to features and upgrade info . You also need to buy only 1 license for 6.0 as this will take you thru the rest of the code upgrades for free .

Be aware that buying the 6.0 license does entitle you to 5.0 but you will have to get them to give you a 5.0 key also. I say this because I had a system that I took from 2.x to 6.0. You can install the 5.0 step but without the key it may bug your DB when going on up to 6.0. That upgrade was just after 6.0's release they may have fixxed that but just be careful. I recommend doing a backup at each step!

Thanks for the responses. I'll look into the 6.0 license question. But where do I get the 4.2 and 4.3 versions? They are not available on the download site.

hi. The older versions are kept on an ftp site. Name of the site is ftpnbx.3com.com, username:dealers,

password:sell10knbx



You will see the folder for R4.2.15 and R4.3.6.
