Re: How to mirror between two SAN disk in HP-UX 11.31

Hi Torsten,

Thanks for your message

When OS is booting from primary disk , it is failed. Then I run  boot vmunix -lq  in HPUX> and  finally OS boot and I  correct the setting in /tmp/AUTOFILE by boot vmunix -lq.

When I again reboot the OS , it boot failed again and do same task as before. So how to solve it permanently.

Please check the bellow output.

Re: How to mirror between two SAN disk in HP-UX 11.31

Hi Torsten,

Thanks for your quick response with message.

I have checked the contents and run both command again as bellows.  Now OS is booting  from primary OS  witout any error. But  same issue occured when primary disk is unpresent and OS is failed from alternate disk.  Please check bellow output.

Finally I run reconnect -r  in shell> and then select alternate disk and then OS is booted.

bash-4.3# cat /tmp/AUTOFILE

So I think , configure for autoboot from alternate disk  may not be correct.

Hope response from anyone from HP-UX expert end.

Re: How to mirror between two SAN disk in HP-UX 11.31

I don't know if you have done all steps to make the second disk bootable.

Have you done

mkboot -e -l /dev/rdisk/disk14

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

2. Use the following commands to determine the size in megabytes of the (1) EFI, and (3) HPSP partitions on the current boot disk.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
# /usr/sbin/diskinfo -b /dev/rdisk/disk4_p1 \

7. Use mkboot to format and populate the newly created EFI partition:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
# mkboot -e -l /dev/disk/disk14

8. Change the AUTO file on both boot disks to hpux -lq so the host can boot without quorum if one mirror disk fails.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
# printf 'boot vmunix -lq' > /tmp/auto

# efi_cp -d /dev/disk/disk14_p1 /tmp/auto /EFI/HPUX/AUTO

9. Run the pvcreate command on the character device file for the HP-UX (second) partition of the mirror disk, using the "-B" flag to make the disk bootable, and the "-f" flag to overwrite any pre-existing data on the disk.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
# pvcreate -f -B /dev/rdisk/disk14_p2

10. Extend the root volume group to the HP-UX partition of the mirror disk, using the block device file of the second (HPUX) partition.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
# vgextend /dev/vg00 /dev/disk/disk14_p2

11. Starting with the boot, swap, and root logical volumes, run lvextend to mirror each logical volume:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
#lvextend -A y -m 1 /dev/vg00/lvol1 /dev/disk/disk14_p2 (m:mirror )
#lvextend -A y -m 1 /dev/vg00/lvol2 /dev/disk/disk14_p2 (lvol2 : swap lv)
#lvextend -A y -m 1 /dev/vg00/lvol3 /dev/disk/disk14_p2

#lvextend -A y -m 1 /dev/vg00/lvol8 /dev/disk/disk14_p2

12. Run the following lvlnboot commands to reestablish LVM’s knowledge of the root and boot file systems and primary swap and dump.
# /usr/sbin/lvlnboot -b /dev/vg00/lvol1
# /usr/sbin/lvlnboot -r /dev/vg00/lvol3
# /usr/sbin/lvlnboot -s /dev/vg00/lvol2
# /usr/sbin/lvlnboot -d /dev/vg00/lvol2
# /usr/sbin/lvlnboot -R

12. Run the following lvlnboot commands to reestablish LVM’s knowledge of the root and boot file systems and primary swap and dump.
# /usr/sbin/lvlnboot -b /dev/vg00/lvol1
# /usr/sbin/lvlnboot -r /dev/vg00/lvol3
# /usr/sbin/lvlnboot -s /dev/vg00/lvol2
# /usr/sbin/lvlnboot -d /dev/vg00/lvol2
# /usr/sbin/lvlnboot -R

13. Add the block device special file of the HP-UX (second) partition of the mirror to the file /stand/bootconf. The lower case "l" in the following command indicates that the disk is managed by LVM or VxVM.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
# /usr/bin/echo "l /dev/disk/disk14_p2" >> /stand/bootconf

14. If desired, set the alternate boot path to the mirror_disk using the Lunpath H/W Path. Check step 1.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
# /usr/sbin/setboot -a 35/0/2/2/0/0/1.205.2.255.0.0.0 (mirror disk:14 legacy HW path, also collect from sam)

15. If the mirror disk includes an HPSP partition, use the efi_fsinit command on the character device file for the HPSP (third) partition to initialize it with an EFI file system.
------------------------------------------------------------------
# /usr/sbin/efi_fsinit -d /dev/rdisk/disk14_p3

=====================================================================================================================================================================================
*************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************

After done all above command, pls check bellow before OS reboot:

1.check boot device
#dmesg | grep -i "Boot device"

2. check both boot path
#setboot
3.check or add the alternate path in this location : # cat /stand/bootconf OR vi /stand/bootconf

bash-4.3# cat /stand/bootconf

l /dev/disk/disk4_p2
l /dev/disk/disk14_p2

4.check the VG (show PV used :2)
# vgdisplay -v vg00

5.To check booth the disk are boot able:
bash-4.3# vgcfgrestore -n vg00 -l
Volume Group Configuration information in "/etc/lvmconf/vg00.conf"
VG Name /dev/vg00
---- Physical volumes : 2 ----
/dev/rdisk/disk4_p2 (Bootable)
/dev/rdisk/disk14_p2 (Bootable)

6.Check LVM boot pointers.
# lvlnboot -v

Re: How to mirror between two SAN disk in HP-UX 11.31

The procedure looks good.

I miss one step.

7a) efi_fsinit -d /dev/rdisk/disk14_p1

7b) mkboot -e -l /dev/rdisk/disk14

Then copy the AUTOFILE again.

Just to be sure perform

setboot -p /dev/disk/disk4

setboot -h /dev/disk/disk14

setboot -a /dev/disk/disk14

setboot -v

Please log the complete output while booting and attach if it failes again.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: How to mirror between two SAN disk in HP-UX 11.31

Hi  Torsten.,

I have run your provided bellow command

7a) efi_fsinit -d /dev/rdisk/disk14_p1

7b) mkboot -e -l /dev/rdisk/disk14

#cat /tmp/AUTOFILE

boot vmunix -lq

Then run bellow command

#setboot -p /dev/disk/disk4

#setboot -h /dev/disk/disk14

#setboot -a /dev/disk/disk14

#setboot -v

bash-4.3# setboot

Re: How to mirror between two SAN disk in HP-UX 11.31

Press Any Key to interrupt Autoboot
\EFI\HPUX\AUTO ==> boot vmunix
Seconds left till autoboot - 0
AUTOBOOTING...Could not open file vmunix to check for a directory
Could not open vmunix

This means the OS loader was started (from UEFI area), but did not find the kernel.

This is set by the lvlnboot -b/-r ... commands you performed.

You either did a typo or there was any error / warning message that you did not capture.

I guess we have to repeat some of the steps.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.
