reduce volume group issue

Hi,

 

i want to reduce the volume group on my system from 35 disk to be 30 disk. what is the method to make this without damaged data.

the volume group date is Less than total 30 disk size. my OS is 11.31 and rx8640 server.

Hi ,

 

Make sure that those disk that you intend to remove , don't have any required FS residing on them.Check this with lvdisplay -v you_lv_name | grep disk_to_be_removed.That being made sure ,proceed with umounting the FS , removing the LV and then finally  you can doa  vgreduce /dev/disk/diskXX , to remove the disk from volume group.

Hi:

 

Depending upon your logical volume allocation policies, you may also be able to use 'pvmove' to shift disk extents from one physical volume to another thereby freeing some physical volumes from use.

 

Using 'pvmove' does not require downtime, but take care not to interrupt the process lest the process leave stale logical extents in the logical volume.  See the 'pvmove(1M)' manpages for more information.
