Re: Unable to take backup

Hi,

first check, which tape devices are really available:
ioscan -fnCtape

Then configure your backup to use the correct device /dev/rmt/Xn

Re: Unable to take backup

Hi:

Also, make sure that your tape is write-enabled. Check the silly tab on the tape :-)

Re: Unable to take backup

Salam Farhan,

-->fbackup(3047): could not open output file /dev/rmt/3m

Some thing wrong with tape /dev/rmt/3m.

Could you please post the output of

#ioscan -fnC tape

Re: Unable to take backup

couple of suggestions

1. first make sure you are able to rewind it.

mt -t /dev/rmt/3m

2. Try to copy simple file to it like /etc/hosts or /etc/group.

Re: Unable to take backup

Hi,

If it works intermittenly then it could be either drive issue or media problem.

Try to clean the drive using cleaning tape or replace the drive.
Best wishes,

Ganesh.

Re: Unable to take backup

Hi,

seeing five tape writers on you server, I would test, if the connection between your memory (or a label on the device) and the device information of HP-UX is still valid.

Put a tape only in that drive, YOU assume is /dev/rmt/3XX
and then try somthing like
for dev in 0mn 1mn 2mn 3mn 4mn
do
print $dev
mt -t /dev/rmt/$dev status # may be option -f here
done

Perhaps there is exactly one positive output.

Eject that tape, use another slot and repeat this procdure.
