I just upgraded 45 new MSM-460 units from v5.7.0.3 to v5.7.1.0-12379 and the problem still exists.  This sucks.

Can you please advise your support case number so that I can check on this?

Thank you.

Re: Losing access to network

This REALLY sucks. We have one MSM710 and five MSM410 (a very small and simple setup) and we have the problems as reported in this thread.

Randomly an AP will stop working, when restarted everything goes back to "normal". When the problem occurs the clients on that AP can't reach any servers or other resources on the network, they can however communicate with the MSM710 since the webinterface is still accessible.

I have tried different radio settings. I have tried three different firmwares.. So far, no luck. Any advice on settings?

Case number

Firmware is

5.7.1.1-12533

We have found that some of the APs (MSM460s and less the MSM410s in our case) don't like DHCP protect and/or ARP protect.

This is mainly with older switches (2626 and 2650) so this might be something you can look into.

In our case the issue was originally firmware based and only occuring with the MSM410s (solved from 5.7.0.3 onwards) and then always occuring around DHCP (the client wouldn't get a lease after it had expired). After disabling DHCP Protect and ARP Protect in the older switches the issue was resolved. We eventually had to replace quite a few of these switches due to this issue alone.

Bear also in mind that the MSM series APs are very peculiar (for us at least) if there are any issues with the physical medium. We had a case where a AP was not working with a link/cable that otherwise passed all the tests. 3 months later the cable failed! We have identified quite a few cases where issues occured due to the quality of the cable.

Finally, if your clients can communicate with the controller but not any other resources you should look into the traffic termination settings on your controller and/or filtering. If traffic randomly stops at the controller then the issue is most definitely settings based and not firmware based.

Hope the above helps.

Re: Losing access to network

Hello -

I have 6 E-MSM430's and 4 Cisco 1240AGs in a manufacturing environment. Most of our users have terminals on a forklift (IBM iSeries), in which they access database information from wirelessly. The coverage is suitable, but I have problems with users loosing connectivity. This morning a user was able to stay connected all shift with exception of when other users started coming in and connecting also. Normally I would think that there was a capacity issue on the amount of AP connections supported, but that is not the case here -- especially with this model being able to handle over 100 connections. Do you have any suggestions as to where I should start investigating and what I should check?

Re: Losing access to network

Hello,

I am also experiencing similar issues. I have 3 x MSM760's teamed together with 188 AP's. Some of them are MSM 460's but most of them are MSM 430's. In my case, wireless clients get really weak signals where they had a good coverage before. And on some areas clients are not getting an IP address from the DHCP, you have to go under the access points to get an IP even that does not work some times. I have scanned my spectrum using Meta Geeks - Wi Spy for interference and found noting. This is a hotel and that affects our business.

Did you try 5.7.2?

Re: Losing access to network

As advised by HP I have upgraded to 5.7.2.0 today. Coverage has been increased. Clients get connected easily. Although I still have some clients experiencing issues when connecting.

Will update you after monitoring more for couple of days.

Re: Losing access to network

I have also been having all kind of troubles "forever" with this. But 5.7.2.0 seems ok so far. Been running it for a month, but don't dare to conclude yet that everything is good... :)

Same issue. MSM 710 and five MSM410.

Periodically stops responding.

Latest firmware - 5.7.2.0-12736

Wrote an email to support, waiting for reaction.

Re: Losing access to network

I am also still seeing an issue with clients losing connection. I have upgraded the firmware to 5.7.2.0-sr2-12993. The problem is difficult to pinpoint because it is random- different APs, clients and time of day. Currently we have 54 MSM 460 being controlled by the MSM 760. I have e-mailed support and have not received a solution yet.

Re: Losing access to network

So like a fool I upgrade to 6.0 and noticed that while my clients had connected to the controllor, I could not ping them nor when they have network access.  I then downgraded to the new 5.7.3 and that too also had problems.  I'm going back to 5.7.2 which I felt was pretty stable.

Aanyone else seeing this with 5.7.3 or 6.0?

I think what the fellow poster wants to say is that the 5.7.3.0 version of the software is now available in the Software Updates and Licensing Portal, it is not yet publicly available.

Re v6.0.0.0 not working as expected, it is clearly marked as "Early Availability" (i.e. beware) and one should also read the release notes which specifically state (p8, Fixes):

"Version 6.0.0.0 contains all of the “Fixes” found in versions 5.7.1.1 (including support releases 5.7.1.1 SR1 and 5.7.1.1 SR2) and 5.7.1.2. With the exception of the “Fixes” listed below, the fixes included in version 5.7.2.0 (including support releases 5.7.2.0 SR1 and 5.7.2.0 SR2) should be considered known issues in version 6.0.0.0."

We haven't tested v5.7.3.0  in our lab yet so can't comment on performance.

Re: Losing access to network

I have read the entire thread and can't see any concrete evidence of a fix, just a bunch of everyone saying they have the same issue as I do. If there is a fix please post it in bold?

8 MSM765zl controllers -800+ AP's
6.3.0.0 firmware

Thanks in advance all!

Re: Losing access to network

For me 5.7.3-sr2 and 5.7.4 fixes it.

6.3.0 is not good at all here.

Hi there,

we are running the same software (6.3.0.0) in two sites and don't have this problem (we have others :-)) since software v.5.7.3.0.

Have you also seen my earlier post re DHCP protect and ARP protect playing havoc with the APs? Since disabling both (and replacing quite a few aging switches) we have eradicated this issue altogether.

Re: Losing access to network

As far as I know this was fixed in 5.7.3 SR2 which can be obtained from the support team, also similar issue was resolved in 6.2.1 which was recommended by HP.. both I have tried and works perfectly fine... any other versions not sure but in last issue they clearly mentioned to go with the 6.2.1 if upgrade is needed and they didn't recommend 6.3 so downgrade if u r using 6.3 or use 5.7.3 sr2 if needed if the new features are not a concern... gwt in touch with HP support for official recommendation.

Re: Losing access to network

small point to add. 6.2.1 is released after the 6.3 version so it is a new maintenance release with more fixes... 6.3 is an upgrade with more features... and with more features comes more bugs :)

I've been told that the 6.2.1 only adds some fixes for the HP425 ap...

Re: Losing access to network

I used 6.3 and it was too buggy.  I'm on 6.0.2 and pretty happy.  Really wish HP will organize all these versions.

Re: Losing access to network

I have a customer that faced clients disconnection issue after upgrading to 6.2 and using 6.2.1 solved the issue totally and same recommendation he gave to another site and worked perfectly... if u r in the 5.7 code then use 5.7.3 sr2 better if you don't need new features

Re: Losing access to network

I was running both 6.2.0 and 6.3.0 for several weeks each, and had issues impossible to troubleshoot or pin down.

Before that we were running 5.7.3-sr2 for many months - and was very happy. When 5.7.4 was released, I took the plunge and downgraded.

No problems at all after that, but I'm a bit jealous of the features in 6.x. I will wait for the next 6.3.x (or 6.4?) and try that, but I'm afraid I'm stuck on 5.7.4 for the rest of the lifetime of this equipment.
