OSD installation on SCCM 2007 SP2 fails

I'm using SCCM 2007 R2/SP2, trying to install the ProLiant Server OS Deployment component. 64-bit Windows 2008.

Towards the end of the wizard the installation halts and rolls back. The following error is in the event log:

Windows Installer installed the product. Product Name: HP ProLiant Server OS Deployment for Configuration Manager 2007. Product Version: 1.0.6.0. Product Language: 1033. Installation success or error status: 1603.

The step in the wizard that fails seems to be: Creating new WinPE boot image.

Re: OSD installation on SCCM 2007 SP2 fails

The last thing I heard from HP on this was that the OSD pack did not work properly with SCCM SP2.

There is a new version of OSD from HP out in Dec that will support SP2.

Can anyone from HP confirm this?

Re: OSD installation on SCCM 2007 SP2 fails

That is correct the current HP OSD Toolkit does not work with SCCM SP2.
The new release of Insight Control for Microsoft System Center will include a new HP OSD Toolkit that works with SCCM SP2. The release is expected be avail 1Q2010.

Re: OSD installation on SCCM 2007 SP2 fails

Can someone confirm that the product we are waiting for is "HP Insight Control 6.0"? I had installed SCCM SP2 in hopes to support deploying Server 2008 R2, but found after that the HP OSD no longer functions. I read on the HP website that Insight Control will be released sometime in January 2010. Is that still on schedule?

Re: OSD installation on SCCM 2007 SP2 fails

Yes, the next release of Insight Control for System Center is exclusively provided as part of and licensed through HP Insight Control 6.0 (Jan 2010). The suite will include an update to OSD to support Windows 2008 R2.

Re: OSD installation on SCCM 2007 SP2 fails

Does anyone have any updates as to when the link to download HP Insight Control 6.0 will be available? The HP page still says January and there is less than a week left.

Re: OSD installation on SCCM 2007 SP2 fails

Hi Everyone,

are there any updates on this ? Still only can download the pre-version 6.0 which is obviously not supported on SCCM SP2.

Thx

Re: OSD installation on SCCM 2007 SP2 fails

As of 3/1/2010 - downloaded what appeared to be the latest trialware for the SCCM integration and still fails at install on SCCM SP2 running on Windows 2008 R2.

Am I downloading the wrong trial or has it not been resolved yet?

Thanks,

Casey

Re: OSD installation on SCCM 2007 SP2 fails

They haven't released 6.0 yet. That's still the old version I believe. This link still hasn't been updated to reflect the delay since the proposed January timeframe...

When at the final step to download directly, it gives the following error:

Looks like the download link is working. I'm pulling down the ISO right now.

Re: OSD installation on SCCM 2007 SP2 fails

Second look at the HP OSD Toolkit release notes once you open the ISO image and start Autorun.

Some configurations may require a MSFT Hotfix that is required for OSD installing on SCCM with SQL 2008:

OSD installation failed on SCCM with SQL 2008
The OSD kit failed to import HP Driver Packages with SCCM with SQL 2008 during installation. Microsoft Hotfix KB969529 resolves the OSD installation failure.

Re: OSD installation on SCCM 2007 SP2 fails

You cannot install that hotfix (KB 969529) on Windows 2008 R2. When you try to install it fails with error:

"Setup has detected that the build version of the system installed does not match the update you are applying to it.

You can only install this update on Build 2195 to Build 6005."

This would appear to be referring to the Windows platform version.

Re: OSD installation on SCCM 2007 SP2 fails

Yes the release notes should state:
OSD installation failed on SCCM with SQL 2008 and Windows 2008

Re: OSD installation on SCCM 2007 SP2 fails

I'm sorry but guess I'm failing to understand your answer. This hotfix would only appear to apply to SCCM 2007 SP1. The KB article specifically states that to resolve the problem, one of the supported methods is to 'obtain the latest service pack' which in this case is SP2 which is installed on this server.

Is the HP OSD product simply not supported on Windows 2008 R2 or is there another issue?

Re: OSD installation on SCCM 2007 SP2 fails

HP's OSD Toolkit in the latest Insight Control for System Center Release 6.0 does support SCCM SP2 and W2008 R2. You are correct the Hotfix is not required for your configuration if you are running SCCM SP2 with W2008 R2. It is only required for SCCM SP1 with W2008. We will update the release notes in the next release to clarify this point.
I would suggest if you are not successful with the HP OSD Toolkit installation you call HP Support by looking at the support section in the HP OSD Toolkit User Guide.

Trying to update the distribution point for "HP ProLiant Server OSD SSTK 22 Boot Image (x64)" and am getting the following error. Is there something else that needs done after upgrading the HP OSD? I was running SCCM SP2 R2 prior to upgrading HP OSD.

Re: OSD installation on SCCM 2007 SP2 fails

In response to my last posting, the issue was resolved by remove WAIK from Add/Remove Programs, then reinstalling the latest version of WAIK.

Re: OSD installation on SCCM 2007 SP2 fails

Interesting BigBird....I wonder if that would solve my issues with installing the HP OSD kit in the first place. Maybe reinstall the WAIK?
