HP MSA 2040 SAN - Linear or Virtual pool?

What do you recommend for a pool in the MSA 2040 SAN? I´m finding little documentation in the subject. ¿Has anyone had any experience with it?omegle

Hi

your qustion should be what is my future plan.

Linear pool is limited maximum 16 drives depending on raid but you can add even just two drives if you have not reached the pool limit.

virtual pool you add disk groups into a virtual pool each disk group can have its own raid level but it is recommneded that they are similiar unless you use tearing.

Re: HP MSA 2040 SAN - Linear or Virtual pool?

@woltehrtl

This question depends on your business requirement. Moreover in Linear Storage space already fully allocated upfront where volumes are always Thick volume only but in case of Virtual Pool space gets allocated as in when data need to be written at the backend which means volumes can be Thick or Thin provision volume. So you gets more choice.

You should go through best practices whitepaper to understand all features of MSA2040 specially when dealing with Virtual array. Please find the link,

Hope this helps!
