10xx have per Controller 2 Host Ports, 20xx have 4 Host Ports
20xx have a more powerful Controller
You can say, the 10xx is the small/light/entry Version from 20xx.

2) Which is the newest model: 1050?? 2050?? 2052??
1050 and 2050 are both Up to Date.
The previous Model was 1040 and 2040.
2052 is the same as 2050, but with included License and 2x SSD Drive for Tiering.

3) Is 2040 certified for VMware 7.0?? When will it be certified??
You can check here: https://h20272.www2.hpe.com/spock/
It shows already Certified for 7.0.

Re: MSA 1050/2040/205# Questions

@Cali Thank you for replying!!

I looked at Spock, it appears only the 2050/2052 is certified for VMware 7.0.

Does anyone know where or how I could find out if the 2040 will become certified for VMware 7.0??

Regarding the controllers difference between 1050 and 2050, where can I find out about these differences??

I'm looking for information because I have a 2040 which will certainly function just fine with VMware 7.0 and I'd like to avoid spending $10k just to upgrade it, and because I'm looking for a SAN for another company wherein it seems a 1050 would work just fine for what the company does if I put fast disks in it (e.g. 10k or 15k disks).

Thank you, Tom

Re: MSA 1050/2040/205# Questions

I was told last year by HPE tech support this is the correct part number to buy if we want to upgrade to 2050:

HPE MSA 2050 SAN Dual Controller SFF Storage Q1J01A
NOTE: Includes an SFF Array Chassis, two MSA 2050 SAN controllers, two AC power supplies, two .7m PDU cords (IEC C14), one rack-mount kit.

Is an equivalent 1050 part number available that will take the SFF disks presently used in our 2040 SAN?? -- is this even possible??

Thank you, Tom
