Hello,
I understand that in an MSA 2060 single pool configuration, only one controller is active at any one time. Does this apply to just management of the pool / disk groups, or also handling of host IO to the volume? E.g. are MPIO paths Active across both contollers at the same time?
Consider the following example:
- Two dual-port FC hosts (Server 1 & Server 2) are directly connected to the MSA.
- Each host has a single FC connection to Controller A, and a single FC connection to Controller B.
- There is a single volume on the MSA, and its Pool is active on Controller A.
- There has just been a break in the FC cable connecting Server 1 to Controller A, but the pool remains active on Controller A.
Can Server 1 still access the volume through Controller B?
Thank you

SolutionHi,
yes with a Single Pool, the IO is handled by a Single Controller.
Single Pool is now preferred because the Controllers are now so powerful unless you have a very big configuration.
Both controllers have access to volumes owned by the other controller.
The MPIO ALUA Protocol on the Host manages the optimized Path to the Volume.
