MSA60

Currently have a ProLiant DL360 with MSA60 SAS array attached with 5 x 450GB.    Server and array currently used for one backup solution (DPM) but I am going to rebuild and install Symantec BackupExec but wish to add more storage to the MSA60.  There are currently 7 free slots in the MSA60.

Can i add non-450GB disks (i.e. 4x 1TB SAS hdd) and advertise both 'arrays' (1. RAID-5 5 x 450GB array 2. RAID-5 4 x TB array) to the DL360 or am I best to add more 450GB SAS hdd and create a 9 disk RAID-5 array and advertise/connect that to the DL360?

Re: MSA60

Hi, I suppose this depends on your BackupExec.
Can it utilize the space efficiently if it's from two "disks"?

1TB disks are supported in the MSA60 so that part should not be a problem.

Expanding an array is very time consuming.
If you want to make it into all 450GB disks I would (but depends whether you have the possibility) delete the array and re-create it.

Re: MSA60

Hi Johan

Thanks for your opinion, will prob extend current 450GB SAS hdd array rather than adding 1TB disks.
