netraid online capacity expansion
hi together
probably a stupid question ... but better ask stupid then make a mistake ...
i have a raid 5 logical drive (3x18GB) on my lc2000 and would like to expand the capacity ...
is it possible to add a bigger (> 18GB) drive to the existing logical drive?
what must / can i do to keep the data ... online expansion ...? i would prefer not to restore the hole server ...
system:
lc2000
nt 4.0
hp netraid (1 channel)
than'x for help
chris

Re: netraid online capacity expansion
Hello Christoph,
you cann add a disk to the array an reinitialize the array but windows NT does not recognize that. If is necessary to activate virtual drive sizing first (I mean before copying data to the new volumes - normally during installation). Then the netserver dictates the system one huge hard disk so that you can online add capacity. But remember it can be possible that you have to reboot the server because of this changes. Only Windows2000 supports fully online capacity expansion without complication. But you can use the Raid Configurator for the Winnt environment (on your top tools cd) to prevent this reboot for accessing the raid manager of the navigator cd.
