Netserver E40 Upgrade??

Hello,

I received a free net server last week. I am hopping to install MS SB2000 on it and run IIS/Exchange and file/print sharing. I know this server is antiquated. I am hoping to upgrade it as much as possible. I am wondering if any one with success???s upgrading an E40, and a who is a little more computer literate would leave me some suggestions. What is the upgrade capability? What additions do you recommend to optimize the performance? The current specs are, Intel Pentium Pro 200MHz processor,
160 MB of ECC SDRAM
1 SCSI Hard drives 2GB, 1 IDE 3.1 GB drive,
2-4GB DAT SCSI Tape Drive,
10/100 3com Network Card,
CD-Rom,
3.5 Floppy

That server most likely won't handle SB2000. NT 4.0 was the only MS nos that was certified on the E40. http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=lpn11940&locale=en_US&prodSeriesId=45933&prodTypeId=15351

I would only install NT 4.0 Server or try linux.

Hello, I know that this message is old, but I just successfully up graded an old e40 to accept windows XP Pro!!!

If this is of any use to you please let me know... Below is a brief detail of what I did!!!

I had a 30 gig drive with a damage XP OS on it... I installed it in IDE 1 and turned the PC on... Nothing happened until the installion CD tried to place the OS on the 2.3 gig SCSI drive that was too small for it.

I had to redirect the installtion to the 30gig drive to make it work!!!

the 2.3 gig is the C: and holds bak up files and the main drive is now the D: which holds all programs!!

I am pretty sure it will handle SB2000...
I am using mine as a tax program server for my office!!!

I like these old work horse computers... Lots o' Luck

I've got a NetServer E45. Win2K can be installed but the floppy disk drive doesn't work. AFAIK this is a BIOS problem.

Hello i Have a Net Server E40 and Have Nt 4.0 Server On It Now im hoping to put 2000 server on it i was wondering if anyone new if 2000 server would work on it i have the Memory Maxed and a 20 gig drive on IDE 1 the scsi drive is a back up Nt only sees like 1 gig or so so i have it Seperated in to sections but was wonderin if any body new if it would install and work on the 20 gig formatting and getting rid of nt 4.0 and just yousing 2000 server now insted of 4.0 ?? well thanks Ken ASAP ASAP Post
