Windows 2003 Server?
Preparing to upgrade from NT4 Server to Win 2003 Server. One server is a Netserver LH3 that the client wants to hang onto a while longer. Is a Win2K+ compatible BIOS upgrade available? Any caveats?

Re: Windows 2003 Server?
Hi Jeff,
make sure your customer knows that the LH3 is not supported on w2k3, only the TCxxxx Netservers are supported on w2k3. Just to set expectations right.
If it works then fine, but in case of issues at driver and/or OS level you can't get the same support from HP on this setup.

Re: Windows 2003 Server?
One thing to do before considering an upgrade is make sure all drivers, firmware and BIOS are up to date.
There is a known issue with the Win2K driver on the LH3 and outdated firmware the integrated NetRAID controller. You can encounter a "disk read error" after the upgrade is complete. I believe the problem arises because the new driver is incompatible with the out of date BIOS/firmware versions. The solution is to update the BIOS and integrated NetRAID firmware. Read more about it here on Microsoft's web site:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=216645
A virtually identical article can also be seen on HP's website:

Good luck.
