Innovation at the Edge: Know how HPE OEM can help you the way you live and work at the Edge

Edge computing is the next big thing in networking technology that will alter the way businesses interact with the physical world. According to Gartner, by 2025 companies will process more than 75% of their data at the edge. So, let's understand why Edge computing is so important or is even considered the next big wave of technology architecture in information management by many. In this blog, we will also learn why Dr. Tom Bradicich (Vice-President, HP fellow, and global head of Edge and IoT CoE & Labs, HPE) & Gerald Kleyn (VP and General Manager, Moonshot, Edge and IoT Systems at HPE) think that Edge is more than just a buzzword.

In edge computing, data gets processed by the device itself or by a local computer or server, rather than being transmitted to a data center. This enables data stream acceleration, including real-time data processing without latency, allowing smart applications and devices to respond to data almost instantaneously while being created, eliminating lag time. This is critical for technologies such as self-driving cars and has equally important benefits for business.

Dr. Tom Bradicich, who was a part of HPE Discover Munich 2019 event, says that a few exciting things are happening related to the Edge or the Intelligent Edge. "No. 1, we are demonstrating our products, solutions & services that can take our customers and our partners to the Edge and improve the way they live and work at the edge. The Edgeline converged edge system, which is a new product category allows our OEM partners and our customers to take advantage of the enormous opportunity of the edge", he said. Dr. Tom further spoke about the 3 Cs of the Intelligent Edge- Connect, Compute and Control that “can be embodied in one or more products and solutions we offer here, such as the ability to connect to the automobiles on manufacturing line in industrial IoT application, compute the data and then the third C take control and to decide what to do with the product to move it along to get out of the door faster”.

Gerald Kleyn, on the other hand, says that there are benefits of data being generated at the edge because it creates a tremendous opportunity to analyze the data and take action right where that data is. Kleyn further says, "We have a great OEM team that gets underneath our customers' needs, wants to do what's best for their outcomes, which means embedding our products within their operations technology. Hence, we can bring a lot of value to the table with our deep engineering capability, our supply chain, and our global services".

Hence, Edge is no longer just a buzzword. Today, the Edge market is evolving driven by the rising deployment of edge computing. At HPE, we drive new capabilities at the Intelligent Edge.
