Year after year, the Space Symposium keeps up its reputation as the โ€œmust attendโ€ space industry event. This year was no different. The Space Symposium once again lived up to our expectations by conducting lively and productive networking discussions, while exhibits showcasing the latest in space technology. In our last blog, we shared some of the top highlights of the event. Today, we will be discussing Hewlett Packard Enterprise's participation at the event & its Spaceborne Computer-2 that successfully completed 24 research experiments, accelerating time-to-insight from months and days to minutes.

The experiments involved real-time data processing and testing of new applications to prove reliability in space as part of an effort to increase autonomy for astronauts. These experiments spanned use cases supporting healthcare, image processing, natural disaster recovery, 3D printing, 5G, and solutions enabled by artificial intelligence.

According to Dr. Mark Fernandez, principal investigator, Spaceborne Computer-2, at HPE, โ€œBy introducing edge computing and AI capabilities to the International Space Station with Spaceborne Computer-2, we have helped foster a growing, collaborative research community that shares a common goal to make scientific and engineering breakthroughs that benefit humankind, on space and here on Earth".

"We are proud of this ongoing work, which has already resulted in 24 completed experiments, from various organizations, demonstrating new possibilities for space exploration and milestones for humanity", he further said.

This year, HPE exhibited at booth #1457, and Dr. Mark Fernandez was a part of the Venturing Further in Space, with an AI panel. HPE, NASA and Microsoft demoed the AI Hand Glove experiment at the HPE booth during Space Symposium 2. HPE OEM, too, was a part of the space conference where visitors got to learn about edge-to-cloud hardware and services capabilities that HPE OEM can provide for your edge compute and consumption services requirements, to give you that "out of this world" experience.
