Installing from which CDROM? I'd expect
11.31 to be on one or more DVDs.

Connected to what? Is this some supported
configuration of software and hardware?

Sounds to me like a good idea.

Re: 11.31.OS installation failed with below error...

Shalom,

The only supported USB devies on a HP-UX server are keyboard and mouse. If you are trying the install from a USB DVD, stop.

Get a SCSI drive and try again.

More likely however the problem is bios/firmware. 11.31 has requirements that must be met before installation. I'd check the matrix for you hardware which you do not list.

Looks like modern Itanium hardware to me.

Re: 11.31.OS installation failed with below error...

Bonjour,

recently had same troubles to install a BL860 with HP-UX 11.31 and an external USB dvdrom and HP Foundation installation DVD from September 2007. The only workaround I found (no Ignite server available) was to use the virtual device from ILO2 interface. More than 4 hours to install ... but it was a success.

After installation, external USB dvdrom was still unavailable. Then what I did is a "match_target" installation with application DVD Of December 2007 ... still with virtual CD from ILO2. And after, miracle, thanks God, I was able to access external USB drive.

BE WARE with application DVD of December 2007 : if you find "Product of Puerto Rico" on the plastic Cover, there is a very strong chance that this DVD is corrupted. Several of my colleagues had a problem with. If it is written "EU" the DVD is OK. I Had this chance ;-)

Of course if you have an Ignite server you can try to install your box with it

Re: 11.31.OS installation failed with below error...

Updated information for SEP:
the newest releases (June 2007 and after) of HP-UX 11.23/Itanium now have USB CD/DVD support. I have no experience with HP-UX 11.31 yet, but the documents I've seen say that 11.31 got USB CD/DVD support in September 2007 release.

This is because the c-class Itanium blades (BL860c) support HP-UX, but in a blade environment an external SCSI interface is not guaranteed to be available.

Of course, the preferred method for installing blades (with any OS) would be a network installation server (i.e. Ignite server for HP-UX)... but if you're building a new site using exclusively blade technology, you need something else to set up the *first* HP-UX blade that may then become the Ignite server for all the others.

NOTE: to use an USB CD/DVD with HP-UX installation, you *must* install using June 2007 or later release of installation discs. The earlier disks won't have USB support in the installer.

Be advised that at least with 11.23 June 2007 release, the USB installation using a LG GSA-2166D USB DVD reader/writer worked but was *very slow* - maybe the installer supported USB1 transfer speed only?

Re: 11.31.OS installation failed with below error...

Siju,

No HP-UX box near me that could help me to validate exactly the process, so here is a general only guide.

You are supposed to connect from your client PC to the console of the HPUX box with an http browser.

Then log in.

You will find a page called "Virtual Media" or something like this where you can start an applet that will connect the HP-UX box to your local DVD ROM or a local ISO image of the DVD you want to use.

Once this applet is started on your desktop, keep it running then insert your HP-UX installation DVD. Then connect to the console through the page "remote console" you will find in the http interface or with telnet, ssh or whatever you have configured on the console.

At EFI, you should find an entry that will permit you to boot through the virtual DVD. If not, try to boot from EFI SHELL : you should see the virtual DVD with an entry like "FS0:" or "FS1:", etc ..

Re: 11.31.OS installation failed with below error...

Hi Siju,

Could U please check Ur system all firmware is latest, if any one is backdate some time U have facing some problem.

U did not mention which H/W model Ur using, thats why I did not provide U system firmware URL link.

If is it possible then U can send me MP event logs (press D), I will check in any H/W error in Ur system.

Thanks--Yaqub
