The printer script for a simple ASCII file is unimportant. These scripts merely enhance the print job so if you don't see any output at all, start with the basics. Does the Kyocera printer have an HP JetDirect LAN card? If not, then you can't use the proprietary HPPI software. HPPI is uses a special port (9100) and protocol. Non-HP LAN cards use the simple RFC 1179 protocol known as remote printing and implemented in Unix and PC systems as well as non-HP LAN cards.

Now if you have this printer connected using an HP LAN card such as the JetDirect/EX, run a communication selftest by pressing the EX's selftest button for about 1 second. This will transmit a simple ASCII file to the printer showing the EX's settings. If this fails, there is something broken with the EX box, the LAN-to-printer cable, or with the printer itself. Until the selftest works, there is no point in trying to get the printer to connect on the network.

Re: Add a Kyocera FS-1900 printer on HPUX 11.11 using JetDirect E.10.34 (hppi)

No, I do not think the kyocera printer has any JetDirect card in it.

It just selected 5Si's Model script and it worked for the kyocera printer I configured in the past.

But for this FS1900 model, nothing is working.

if I cannot use "hppi" is there any other way I can start printing from HPUX to this Kyocera printer?

please advice,
thank you,

Yes. Hppi sets up what is known as a "Network" printer in HP-UX speak. This is the preferred method because you have much greater control over the printer. The other method uses the LPR/LPD protocol as is referred to as a "Remote" printer. You need to know the hostname of the printer and the name of the print queue on this printer (e.g. TEXT, BINARY, POSTSCSRIPT, RAW). On some printers the name of the queue changes the behavior of the device and on others it does nothing. You need to study your printer's documentation for this queue name.
The easist way to set up a remote printer is via SAM but you can also simply use lpadmin.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

I am waiting for the person in CA to confirm if my test jobs printed good.
