Solution
1) The HP box must be certified to boot off the SAN. D class boxes for example generally can't even with a fiber card installed. Newer hardware can.
2) Once the disks are assigned to your host, you can boot off an Ignite server or Core OS cd. In the installation process, you get to pick a boot disk. Assuming the drive assignment is correct and the fiber connection is good, pick the one of the disks available on the emc array.
Complete installation. As long as the fiber card is working, the fabric connection is up, you can boot.
If you have an existing system, you can use mirror/ux to copy all of your logical volumes to the array from their current location.
Before that you use pvcreate -B /dev/rdsk/c#t#d#
Replace # signs with real device numbers.
mkboot -a "hpux -lq (;0)/stand/vmunix" /dev/rdsk/c#t#d#
vgextend /dev/vg00 /dev/dsk/c#t#d#
lvexend -m 1 /dev/vg00/lvol1 /dev/dsk/c#t#d#
Repeat for all logical volumes in vg00
lvlnboot -r /dev/vg00/lvol3 (if thats root)
lvlnboot -s /dev/vg00/lvol2 (if thats swap)
lvlnboot -d /dev/vg00/lvol1
lvlnboot -R
lvlnboot -R
lvlnboot -v
setboot -a Device path of the array.
Hope this helped and was not too much.

Re: boot hp-ux from emc fc4700
Go to powerlink.emc.com and sign-up. You will need your EMC site ID. They have white papers that will help. You will first need to check out their support matrix to see if this is a supported option.

Re: boot hp-ux from emc fc4700
We tried this a few years ago...bought an L2000 without any disks, intending to boot from the fc4700. At that time, it turns out that while you could boot from the fc4700, you couldn't install the OS to the fc4700. The only way to get around this problem was to add an internal disk, install the OS and Navisphere - the emc software necessary to use the fc4700 - and then mirror to the fc4700. After that, we were supposed to be able to remove the internal drive and boot from the fc4700. We never went so far as to remove the internal drives (mirrored) because I always want to have the option of re-installing the OS if I need to.
Of course, things may have changed by now.
