C-ANSI Compiler

Hi, a 2 cpu machine and will be upgraded to 4 cpu's. Will the C-Ansi compiler (purchased with the 2 cpu lic) stop working? Do we need to upgrade the lic before we have the SE install the cpu's, or can this be handled post upgrade?

Thanks in advance,
Doug

Re: C-ANSI Compiler

Doug,

AFAIK the number of CPUs in asystem won't make any difference to the HP ANSI C compiler - its the tier of the system that software is licensed against, and:

a) tiers don't change when you add CPU - a superdoem with 1 cpu is in the same tier as a superdome with 64 cpus
b) This isn't actually enforced in the software anyway

Re: C-ANSI Compiler

No the compiler should continue to run, regardless of the number of CPU's. The licensing is different for different classes of servers, e.g. an A class is different to an rp8400 or a superdome. (cost wise)
Codewords are supplied per set of CD's.

Re: C-ANSI Compiler

The ANSI C compiler pricing doesn't depend upon the number of CPU's but rather upon the 'tier' of the machine which remains constant. If, for example, you moved from an old A180 (tier 1) to an rp8400 (tier3), truth, justice, honor, integrity, ... would compell you to purchase the license upgrade but the original codewords would install on the bigger box and the compiler would happily chew code. In your case, you are morally, ethtically, and legally in compliance. Other compilers license a bit differently. For example, you might be restricted to a certain maximum number of concurrent compiles but ANSI/C does nothing like that.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.
