can't login to CDE

Hi,

For some reason I can't login via CDE.

My workstation configuration is:

I have two lan cards. One is for local lan (10.10.10.1) and the other one is working via DHCP.

Any suggestions ?

Re: can't login to CDE

Hi,

From login screen select option, sessions, fail safe sesion.
Login as root and check your $HOME/.dt/errorlog for more information.

Re: can't login to CDE

The errorlog in /.dt is sized 0.

but in startlog I got this:

Re: can't login to CDE

Hi Tal,

I'd suggest the following :

a) describe EXACTLY what happens & what you see when attempting to login via CDE.

b) Is root user also affected ?

c) contents of /var/dt/Xerrors

d) can you log in to a failsafe session : select from cde options on the cde login
screen.

e) add set -x in $HOME/.dtprofile : attempt to login : check the $HOME/.dt/startlog
again

f) contents of $HOME/.dt/errorlog ?

g) run Run /usr/contrib/bin/X11/dr_dt. check for errors/warnings .....

h) /usr/bin/nslookup
/usr/bin/nslookup

i) check /etc/rc.config.d/netconf entries tie up with nslookup etc ..

j) if possible try to disable DHCP for elimination purposes.

Re: can't login to CDE

I am not sure this is the continuation of the thread where you are unable to use a hostname on the dhcp client.
i.e hostname is unknown.

If this is the case then it cannot log in as usual because the system cannot do a nslookup for the hostname of the machine.

Re: can't login to CDE

Hi,

Try the following:
1. Prepare a copy the $HOME/.dt and delete the old $HOME/.dt. Reboot the server and see if the new setting allows for CDE login.

2. Even setting the hostname wrong can prevent the CDE login. Try checking the hostname in /etc/hostname.

Re: can't login to CDE

One thing - move your $HOME/.dt area out to $HOME/.dt.old, and log out and back in -.

A new .dt dir will be created - If this does not work, your problem is either your environment (may have a DISPLAY Variable set incorrectly i.e. hardcoded) or

You have a problem in your configuration files in /etc/dt area.
sys.resources or another file may be a problem.

Look in your errorlog and startlog in the new $HOME/.dt area to determine what the error is.

good luck

Re: can't login to CDE

Hi Tal,

I had a similar situation a while back.
I was running a B132L and a B180L. When I configured a second NIC (or aliased a second IP to the first NIC) I lost the ability to log in to CDE on an HP-UX 11.0 system.
If this sounds like you, you might need the CDE periodic patch.
Follow the link below from my original question for more details.

Good luck,
