Cannot access to Console

Cannot access to Console

I only know a little bit of HP-UX.
I have a HP9000 server and I need to install Oracle on server side by using Xwindows. I am able to telnet to login as root or other users. But I cannot use console on the server. The keyboard didn't work when I try to login. I think console somehow is disable. I don't have /etc/securetty file. What is the problem ?

Re: Cannot access to Console

Hello LisaGui,

I don't exactly remember, but there is a key on your console that locks it. May be F4 or some other key. Maybe in the menu (in the middle of the keyboard, between F4 and F5).

If I remember which one, I'll comme back and tell you.

Good luck.

Re: Cannot access to Console

Occasionally these consoles lock up and need to be reset. Assuming you are running an HP console (700/9x) do the following:

Power the console off.
Press and hold the 'd' key
Power console on and wait for about 10 seconds (sometimes you hear a beep) then let go of the 'd' key.
You should see message about Resetting to Defaults - Press RETURN.
Press RETURN and that's it. Try to resume typing.

Re: Cannot access to Console

Hi,

Your question is a little confusing, do you
have a web console or a standard 70096 console?

If you have a standard console you may have
The console in "Block Mode". This shows with an
"*" next to it. If so press F3, this may release
it. To reset the console turn off, turn on whilst
holding down the 'd' key on the keyboard for
about 10 seconds.

If you have a web console this post may help.

If not search for 'web console' from the search
screen.

Re: Cannot access to Console

Power off the console, and after several minutes, first press ^B, then power on the console, try it!

Re: Cannot access to Console

Maybe another reason, please make sure that the switch FUNCTION key F4 is on, and there is "*Remote Mode" message displaying at the bottom of the screen.
Always UNIX!

Re: Cannot access to Console

Hi,
BTW you don't really need the console to install Oracle. You can install it from any X-client, so Reflecton-X on a PC-client for example will work perfectly.
good luck,
Thierry.
All unix flavours are exactly the same . . . . . . . . . . for end users anyway.

Re: Cannot access to Console

Hi Thierry,

Thanks for all of you replay. I tried to use f-Reflection-X on my PC to install oracle. But some installation interface buttons missing. So Oracle said they are not supporting third party tool. I have to install oracle in server side.

Thanks.
