CDE Login Fails on First Try, Works the Second

Background: We have Centrify installed on the machines in question. No direct attached consoles, so we use Exceed or Reflection/X.

The first attempt you get "Login incorrect, please try again". Then you just try again, and it works.

It is not a case of making a typo, it is a consistent problem.

I do have a call in with Centrify, but thought I'd ask here because I seem to remember something like this from a long time ago, but I'm not sure what the solution was.

Shalom,

Try the problem from a graphic terminal or a Linux graphic workstation using the ssh - X hostname command.

If it only hapens with Exceed or Reflections it is most likely a configuration issue with one of these two products.

Check /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log for more evidence with which to diagnose this problem.

Re: CDE Login Fails on First Try, Works the Second

OK, I tailed the syslog.log file while I tried logging in through Exceed. The first attempt didn't show up at all - no entries in the log file whatsoever. The second attempt worked fine and you see the messages in the log file indicative of success. Very odd.

I have verified that this problem only appears on machines running Centrify, so it's most likely their problem.

The solution was to restart the CDE daemon.

/sbin/init.d/dtlogin.rc stop

/sbin/init.d/dtlogin.rc start
