changing login prompt

Hi,
Does anyone know if it is possible to change the login prompt in hp? In solaris, I change the login prompt from "login:" to "Program login:" using pam_get_user call. This doesn't have the same effect in hp. Any advice would be great. Thanks.

Re: changing login prompt

I found this on an old 1988 document MM11211853.
"....How can I change the login prompt provided by the getty(1m) command?
Solution

To change the logon prompt, edit the file /etc/gettydefs and change the login-prompt field. Then kill(1) the getty(1m) to allow it to respawn with the new prompt."

Like I said it's an old doc....but hope this helps,

Re: changing login prompt

Rita nailed it. Old doc, but getty's an old daemon.

Re: changing login prompt

Hi,

You are right but just to add something more.
The login prompt defined in /etc/gettydefs file is shown as the first login prompt. After incorrect login you'll see the standard login: login prompt. The same after next incorrect login. But luckily after, as I remember well, 3 incorrect logins you'll see the customized login prompt from /etc/gettydefs, and everythings starts again.
