checking serial numbers remotely

Need to verify serial numbers for a new service contract - it doesn't appear the print_manifest through ignite supplies that. Systems are 10.20 and hardware models are HP9000/847 models. I would like to do this without calling 100 sites.

Re: checking serial numbers remotely

I don't think you can do it with 10.20....

You could try getting it with sysinfo204

I forgot to mention, when you install sysinfo204 (/usr/local/sysinfo204) there is an executable called getsn that you can run on the command line.

It is hardware specific - seems to work on N - class and up....

Re: checking serial numbers remotely

'sysinfo' relies on STM and reports from STM aren't accurate. Often times the data fields don't even match.

There are HW serial numbers and there are SW serial numbers. HW S/N's are what HP uses to track servers. If you call the response center then this is the number that they'll ask you for. HW S/N's can't be displayed with sysinfo because they always appear on the outside of the server. 'sysinfo', STM, uname -i and print_manifest all report the SW serial number. Not the HW S/N.

HW S/N's also appear on the server's shipping manifest and will be with your HP sales rep or HP contract rep. This is what I'd try to refer to.

Note: SW serial numbers are written into the system board via the SSCONFIG utility by HP CE's and are used for SW licensing.

This means they will be important to Veritas online JFS 3.3 but not the response center.
