Re: Configuring new hp tape drive

When adding a tape drive you have to do a few more things.

You go to sam

kernel
drivers

add the driver stape

Then process the kernel and move it to production.

It might not be stape, but you can see from the doc on the tape drive which driver to add to the kernel.

Then it should show up on ioscan and you can install any drivers that came with the drive.

Re: Configuring new hp tape drive

Hello!

Could be that your CD isn't bootable.
Did it boot on the other machines?
What is on the CD?

To find only bootable devices use
sea ipl
this command will list all devices which have ISL loader for hpux or ODE

Re: Configuring new hp tape drive

Why are you using copyutil? Ignite would be a much better product and it is free. You can create a make_tape_recovery tape to create a bootable archive tape of vg00. Refer to the make_tape_recovery(1M) man page for further information.

Re: Configuring new hp tape drive

I agree with Tim. Why fool around with copyutil which is extremely old when using ignite (make_tape_recovery) is so easy and of course free. It's saved my bacon at least once. You can get it here:

Re: Configuring new hp tape drive

ENTRY_INIT -4 error, it may be caused by:
- the disk is experiencing hardware faults.
- the path to the disk is experiencing problems. e.g. Termination, cabling, SCSI adapter, SCSI adapter seating.

Did you try to clean the CD-drive or use a different boot CD? The problem may be caused by bad media.

Re: Configuring new hp tape drive

With Ignite's make_tape_recovery utility, you can make bootable tapes for disaster recovery. Ignite is available on the application cd's and from software.hp.com

link.
http://www.software.hp.com/products/IUX/index.html

Also with Ignite you can create a golden image of your system and even create a bootable cd with a little bit of effort.

I'm including some documentation that will get you started.

Using Ignite golden images

Learning Ignite is not trivial, but it will save you a lot of time and help you accomplish a lot.

Re: Configuring new hp tape drive

It appears that your boot from the CD-ROM drive is failing. If this same CD-ROM can successfully be used to boot on other systems, then it would logically follow that the CD-ROM drive on the one in which it is failing to do so is probably malfunctioning.

It could be as simple as dirty optical heads on the CD-ROM drive, which can be cleaned with a CD-ROM drive head cleaner, or more difficult as something electrically or mechanically wrong with the drive.

If nothing else, try using a different CD-ROM drive from which to boot your system.
