Connection problems to a remote workstation

We are experiencing connection problems to one of our Visualize 3000 series workstations running HP-UX 11.00 OS. Whenever an administrator tries to telnet to the workstation, be it from the same or different subnet, the session appears to connect but the login prompt never appears. Also, we are running the Nagios network monitoring program on the system in question, and even though the system appears to be up, socket timeouts occur on all services being monitored. The workstation has been restarted several times with the problem returning shortly thereafter. Has anyone seen this problem and been able to diagnose and correct it? Thanks.

Re: Connection problems to a remote workstation

Looks like a reverse lookup problem . make sure that the server is able to relove itslef and has correct DNS entries in the resolv.conf file .

Re: Connection problems to a remote workstation

I had a similar problem a few months back and what it was for me, was that the workstation I was trying to log onto, had a Zombie process, taking up 100% CPU, caused by a UPS monitoring process.

Get someone to monitor this when trying to log onto it.
