Hi Prathap,

You dont't need to say sorry =)).

1) When you assign points to the replies, it makes more easy for the forum members to see which reply helps you and which is not. You can even assign N/A for some reply, if it didn't help you. Read the point assigning system, when you post a new question.

2) This ultimately will help you in solving your problem.

3) All the forum members are here only for helping others ( ofcourse learning too ) and when you assign points to each reply, that's like saying THANKS to them.

4) Assigning points is optional, it all depends on your wish !

5) Another important thing is when your problem get resolved, please summarize the solution which worked for you, because it will help all of us for future refernce.

Prathap, I can not view the attachment. It gives me a "Could Not Open URL The URL you requested, ...., does not exist or is not retrievable at this HP IT Resource Center Web site. (Error HTTP_404).

Can you please post it as a normal response, i.e. not as an attachment. It should only be a few lines, so that should not be a problem.

I have tried using 'dd' command. Output of the 'dd' command are:

'STORE/RESTORE-HP/3000.MPEXL
TURBOXL II A.40.20 05/27/94'

So this is *not* a cpio tape! It is not even a HP-UX/UNIX tape, but a tape for an HP3000 (not HP9000) in (3000) STORE/RESTORE format.

I am by no means an HP3000 specialist, but I do not think you can restore an HP3000 STORE/RESTORE format tape on a UNIX/HP-UX system. If you really want to know, then you could post a question in the HP3000 forum.

Just out of interest: How is it possible that this tape is so totally different than you said/thought it was? Who/what told you it was a cpio tape?
