cron daemon hangs in HP-UX9

One of our customers is still using a G70 with HP-UX9.04 for a dedicated application. The application has run perfectly for the last 10 or so years.
Since december 31, 2002 we have had a few occasions where the cron daemon has hung, consuming all CPU power of one of the two processors. The application goes on using the other processor, but scheduled tasks are not executed of course. No changes on the system have ben performed and the last task that was executed by cron finished OK. After killing cron and restarting, the system is fine again.

Is there anyone out there that has seen this behaviour or, even better, has a solution?

Thanks in advance, Frans

Hoi Frans,

Could you check your cron.log if you can find an error message or a specific cronjob wich hangs your cron deamon.

Kind regards,

Robert-Jan.

Hi

Check for the latest cron and libc patches

PHCO_7030
PHCO_11162

The cron patch mentions such a thing

Re: cron daemon hangs in HP-UX9

Hi Robert-Jan and Steve

Thanks for your quick reactions.

R-J: I do not find a cron.log on the system, but I know that cron locks when running different tasks each time. I have no errormessage from the system what so ever.

Steve: Where can I find the Patches, I tried to open the ITRC patch for unsupported OS. However I get a blank screen.

Best Regards, Frans
