Hi Guys,
I'm having problems to configure cygwin on my workstation.
I have got a new workstation on which I have downloaded and installed cygwin successfully.
Now I have got an icon on my desktop which kicks off 'cygwin', once i click on this icon it displays the terminal cygwin shell window, from where i ran 'startxwin.bat' after issuing this command, it takes me into cygwin environment.
This actually starts the openbox window manager with no problems. I'm able to right-mouse-click on the screen and bring up the menu which says Openbox at the top.
Open an xterm from the menu.
Now How do i setup the "openbox" so I can connect to my unix servers????
Mind you cygwin works fine on my old PC/workstation, and I have compared the config files 'cygwin.bat' on both PCs and they look similar...
Please let me know on how to set it up so i can connect to my unix servers..
Thanks in Advance
Raf

Solution
Shalom Raf,
One of the gotcha's in today's VLAN environment is that when a Unix server is broadcasting, its not usually visible to all clients. You need to try a direct connect from client to workstation.
There is some HP-UX configuration requied.
Look at /etc/rc.config.d/xfs
The start variable(first one) should be set to 1. If not set it and:
/sbin/init.d/xfs start
Then try the connect again.
Make sure the user profiles properly set DISPLAY variable to the user that just logged in.

Re: Cygwin Problems
Hi Steven,
Thanks a lot for your prompt response and help mate, I don't have much experience with cygwin, so to resolve my problem, what i did was, I had copied accross the 'cygwin' directory from my old PC into my new PC and now I'm able to connect to all the unix servers including HP machines.
I didn't bother downloading it from internet after I had problems.
Your help have certainly helped to build my knowledge. I will now assign points and will close this thread.
We have an excellent team here.
Kind Regards,
Raf
