Difference in Old Apps and New Apps ..

Hello everyone ..

I am looking through some old HP Licences. That no one has ever looked through. I have found codewords for sept 2001 apps like MirrorUX , Glance and Online JFS. Now we no longer have support on theese apps so I know I can not get the new March '03 codewords. But

I was wondering if there is any significant difference in the apps. In other words are the older apps truthworty?

Thanks,
Richard

Re: Difference in Old Apps and New Apps ..

Hi Richard,

I wouldn't think you would want to install "old" apps on a newer rev. level of the OS. Just begging for heartache IMHO.

Not so much for MirrorUX and Glance but for OnlineJFS it depends on the version. You would want version 3.3 (upgrade from the earlier 3.1) because 3.3 has acl support, version4 disk layout, better performance, etc, etc. I think 3.3 was out when 11.0 got released.

While you really should keep support on all your products, as long as you are still running the same OS, you can safely load the applications using the older Cd's and codewords and then simply install the cumulative patches and be completely up to date.

When you migrate from 11.0, for example, to 11.11 then you must have new codewords and media.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: Difference in Old Apps and New Apps ..

The old applications are pretty reliable, though I don't know about OnlineJFS.

I'm not sure if you actually have a right to use the old ones under these circumstances.

I would get support and use the latest. Its worth the money, they do fix and improve things and make life easier for you the Sysadmin.

The Enterprise Bundle provides all the tools you mentioned, along with PRM and a couple of other nice toys. It runs a little over $4 grand a processor.
