I need to install a more one disk on D270/2 HP9000.
I have one disk running (disk 1). The second disk (disk 2)is same of the first (barracuda-seagate - st32550n). Disk 1 is P/N HP, disk 2 is P/N Compaq.
When I install both, the server don't recognize the new disk.
The only difference that I saw is:
on back of the disks are pins like this:
--first-------------second----
::::||:::| ---- ::::::::::
------------------------------
on disk 1 the pins 5,6 and 10 are jumped; on disk 2 neither.
The question is: it's possible configure disk 2 to run ?
thanx in advance.
Lima.

Re: disk instalation
Set both disk on different SCSI IDs, then it will start working. Make sure that the IDs you are setting is not clashing with any other devices on the same BUS (like tape drives).

Re: disk instalation
Check this document:
http://www.seagate.com/support/disc/scsi/st32550n.html
If you are talking about the "J4" jumpers, then the disk-1 is set for SCSI ID - 6.
Set the second disk as 5, that is 4th and 6th jumpers. Right now the second disk is not set any jumpers, that means it's ID is- 0. This might be clashing with a tape drive (usually ID -0)

Re: disk instalation
Your new disk is having a SCSI disk ID 0.
You may already have a tape drive installed on ID 0 and hence it may not get recognized.
Pls set the SCSI IDs properly and try.
When you boot the server, stop the booting sequence and then
execute sea ( search for devices )
There you can check the ID of your current disk and the new disk also. If the disk is getting sensed by sea command then only your OS will recognize ).

Re: disk instalation
Try this setting:
1. Leave the first disk as it is.
2. Install a Jumper on the 3rd Pin
::::||:::| ---- :::::::|::
This will set the jumper of the comapq disk to id 4 which should not clash

Re: disk instalation
I changed the scsi id to 5 (it's a long history...)
it was a 4th disk on flat cable.
The "bexiguento" it's ok now.
Thanx so much to all,
Lima.
