domain change planning

Hi,

I have indentified the following items that need to be changed to due to a domain name change.(lets say abc.com to xyz.com)

/etc/resolve.conf - change domain name
/etc/mail/sendmail/aliases and sendmail.conf
/etc/hosts

Are there any other issues that need to be considered?

Thank you,

Re: domain change planning

We had a few incidents where
unix accounts had .rhosts,
particularly on the Mc/Serviceguard cluster

The reverse lookup (gehostbyaddr) didn't
get the same match (with or without domain)
and failed the login.

Also is it a good idea to check
that nsswitch.conf are doing the correct
order of search.

Also if you communicate with a Microsoft Windows network , coordinate the change over.

Re: domain change planning

You also might need to update your /etc/mail/sendmail.cw file to reflect the new domain.

May want to check your /etc/fstab file too incase you have nfs mounts with the old domain

Re: domain change planning

Hi,

remote printers and network printers had FQN host names at aa admin site of mine.

- for network printers just edit the interface script
- for remote printers I wrote a patch C-program for the lp status file. If you need something like this, I can dive in my archive and look for it...

Re: domain change planning

Hello,
If you run things like hp openview (OVO) and data protector they often use fully qualified names will have to be re configured. Also take care if you have oracle to check tns names.
Check nsswitch.conf if something is using files first for hosts you need to take care with fully qualified host names in the hosts files .
good luck
