Driver for Ultrium tape autoloader 1/8

Hi,

We have a HP_UX server qith 11i O/S. I am planning to attach a Ultrium tape autoloader 1/8 to this server. I need following info :

1) How to check if driver is installed on this
server for subject tape drive.

2) How to install the driver for subject
tape drive. Where the drivers are available
like CD / web

3) How to configure this driver to tape drive
so that i can start taking backup

4) What is the general procedure to
find/install/configure drivers for any
hardware ( other than tape drive ) on HP-UX
server

5) Any other info we have to know.

Detailed point by point answers are welcome.

Thanks

Re: Driver for Ultrium tape autoloader 1/8

The driver required is just a SCSI driver. Your HPUX machine already has this installed.

Can you give us the full model number? If you can, we can likely find a user manual online for your model that answers all your questions.

Re: Driver for Ultrium tape autoloader 1/8

Hi,

you need drivers:
1. for tape device- stape
2. for changer - schgr

Ad 1)
to check if it is installed
kmsystem | grep stape
kmsystem | grep schgr

Ad. 2)
you have to add drivers by SAM interface
SAM -> Kernel Configuration -> Drivers

Ad. 3)
During system reboot all new devices are
recoqnized by OS.
You can also run ioscan and insf commands.

Ad 4)
like point 2)

Re: Driver for Ultrium tape autoloader 1/8

Here is the online User's Guide for this model:

http://h200006.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00059024/c00059024.pdf

I would read thru this first, and really see what you need to do. It is my belief that you just need a capatible, working SCSI port to attach the tape drive.

Re: Driver for Ultrium tape autoloader 1/8

The drivers are part of the standard HP-UX installation. Just use SAM to configure the tape drive. NOTE: the changer is a totally separate device and requires the auto-changer driver plus special kernel changes to allow the SCSI passthrough driver to see the changer. You'll need to follow the autochanger white paper details: http://www1.itrc.hp.com/service/cki/docDisplay.do?docLocale=en_US&docId=200000066177032
