frecover and host name in -f option

Hi:

When using frecover like this

frecover -f /dev/rmt/1m ...

some files at the end of the tape can't be recovered, and frecover behaves as if they were not backed up. But when using frecover like this

frecover -f HOST:/dev/rmt/1m ...

everything works fine and files are all succesfully recovered.

Any logic explanation for this ?

Re: frecover and host name in -f option

Hi,

Consider installing the latest fbackup/frecover patch.

Check the patch text for the fixes in the latest and previous patches. There is mention of similar behaviour but the details provided are not sufficient to determine an exact match.

Hope it helps.

Re: frecover and host name in -f option

I normally used -f HOST:/dev/rmt/1m if to do a remote recovery where server to restore are in different server.

Re: frecover and host name in -f option

Hi,

I agree with Tim. There have been instances where if you use -i to get a specific file from a tape it cannot be found, but using the -f HOST:devicefile method does work. The difference between the 2 methods is that using -f HOST:devicefile means that the entire tape is read through without the benefit of fast searching. There have been fixes for fbackup/frecover where the fast search logic has been involved.

Darren.
