Help needed!!!!

I am at the end of my rope, here. Recently, when I try to post a response to a former's question, I get HTTP 404 errors. This is really frustrating because I am not able to get my responses posted. I am using IE 5.00.2920.0000 on Win2k.

Again, this has just recently been happening and I haven't changed anything on my PC.

Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance

Chris

Re: Help needed!!!!

I had lots of problems like your seeing in different browsers. I changed my browser, and wal-ah, it was fixed.

I'd try netscape first, as it is able to be un-installed unlike I.E. See if it works. If it does, your IE is too old.

Remember this site uses lots of javascript, bit of java, and html based on script mostly. Older engines either bog down, or dont understand the jscripts.

Re: Help needed!!!!

I'm using IE 5.00.3105 (on my NT) and have seen this kind out symptom twice. What I did was cleared all my cache and cookies and it was ok until it breaks again. I've not gotten this error since I last did that about 2 months ago.

Re: Help needed!!!!

Chris,
go to Internet options, settings, view file, find 'cm' cookie and kill it. Close browser. Open browser and log into ITRC again.
Problem should be solved

Re: Help needed!!!!

Hi Chris,

Going against the flow here...

I normally use IE (version 6.0 on W2K and Win98). I don't have any more problems with IE than I do with Netscape or Opera.

If you continue to use IE, I suggest you at upgrade to IE 6 and appropriate patches. 5.0 is rather dated.

Re: Help needed!!!!

Hi Chris:

I linked this post to Dan's issues thread. You should target his monthly "Issues" with all problems/complaints/wishes.

But Jim, that's his problem, he couldn't reply to Dan's thread (or any other).

Re: Help needed!!!!

Chris,

I experienced this very problem with IE 5 about 9 months ago. I upgraded to IE 5.5 and the problem was solved. Unlike Harry who looks like he can what he wants ;^)) some of have to put up with SOE built PC running M$

My two cents....

Re: Help needed!!!!

I use IE 5.5 on Win2K with all the current patches and don't have any problems.

Re: Help needed!!!!

Hi Chris,

I can only reiterate what the folks above have offered. The 404 issue can often be a local networking issue, browser related, or ISP problem. If the suggestions above don't remedy your problem, let me know in the issues thread Jim points out.

Thanks,
Dan

Re: Help needed!!!!

Thanks for all inputs,

Unfortunately, I am unable to install a new browser, or update when I want. Where I work, The PCs are governed by a different group and all permissions of that nature are forbidden to me. I only have enough permissions to run my necessary apps (and sometimes not even that). Also, there is a set of "approved" applications that are allowed to be installed on these PCs (government computer systems), of which this mozilla stuff isn't on (I believe).

I will look into whether or not there is new IE available.

Thanks again
