Help on Mail configuration

Hi

I am having problems with the mailx and sendmail commands. The server can send mail to hotmail and yahoo, but to our company internet mail address... it can't. I can send the mail the problem is that I don't get anything at all.

Also if I replied to the msg I received to my hotmail account I get an error that the "Delivery Status failed".

How can I see and check the mail configuration to change the mailserver and the other entries???

thanks

Re: Help on Mail configuration

to change your configs, edit /etc/mail/sendmail.cf. You may want to change the DS variable in this file to point to your companies mailserver, perhaps and exchange server or something. Make sure the hostname is in /etc/hosts, or if you use DNS you'll be OK. then try /usr/lib/sendmail -v user@domain.com to get more verbose messages.

Re: Help on Mail configuration

Hi,

Looks like there is anti spamming control on your mail server. If the server from which you are sending emails is a valid domain on the internet. Otherwise edit your /etc/mail/sendmail.cf file and masquarade the domain,

DM your_company.com

Then restart sendmail and now send and email from this server to,

your_mail_id@your_company.com

Hope this helps.

Re: Help on Mail configuration

Hello Sanjay the fully qualify domain is anasco.jostra-bentley.com but this is also what appear in the sendmail.cf fle, so I need to delete "anasco" and just left jostra-bentley.com as the domain right??

thanx ;-)

Re: Help on Mail configuration

Hi Diadina,

No don't delete the fully qualified name. comment it out. I think this name is mentione with the my official domain name macro,

Dj$w. your_domain.com

comment this line, and edit the DM macro (search using /^DM) and then edit it to look like

DM your_domain.com

for eg,

DM jostra-bentley.com

then restart sendmail,

/sbin/init.d/sendmail stop
/sbin/init.d/sendmail start

Now send and email to your company's email account,

cat some_file |mailx -s "test mail" your_id@jostra-bentley.com

Hope this helps.

Re: Help on Mail configuration

ya, put just your domain name, not the hostname in the DM part, then you may want to exclude root from being masqueraded, so add root to the CE part, stop and restart sendmail.

Re: Help on Mail configuration

Hi Diadina,

This is what i was trying to say,

http://support2.itrc.hp.com/service/cki/docDisplay.do?docLocale=en_US&docId=200000054995510

Also if you are sending mail as root, comment the line that says

CE root

if you are setting up masquerading.

Hope this helps.
