hp auto-port aggregation

I'm considering using APA in our SAP/Informix environment, mainly for load balancing and high availability. I'll be using A4929A PCI 1000Base-T nics in Vs, Ns, Ls and SuperDomes. The switch is an LACP compliant Nortel PassPort 8600. Has anyone had any experience with this product? Pros,Cons??

Re: hp auto-port aggregation

APA works well, but I have Cisco switch equipment, not Nortel. It just works, we have not had any problems. We use it for our backup server.

The only gotcha was a patch that had to be applied. As I remember it, there were 2 different patches, depending what version of APA you had.

Hope it helps

Re: hp auto-port aggregation

APA is great but your switch is not listed as a supported product in my documentation. I would check with HP about the compatibility. APA is rock solid with Cisco switches.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

I've had trouble getting support from HP with this product the few times we have had problems.

They dont have alot of people trained with this product.

Re: hp auto-port aggregation

Where can I find the list of supported switches for apa? I did find that the auto with LACP mode will work with IEEE 802.3ab supported switches, like the Nortel Passport.

Re: hp auto-port aggregation

Hi,

You can find the APA patches here on the ITRC.

Just go to the ITRC home, select 'Individual Patches',
then select 'hp-ux' to get to a search screen.
Put "APA" in the keyword window and it will bring up
the patches you need.

Re: hp auto-port aggregation

I suspect the "supported" switch list are those switches where HP has actually tested APA with the switch, or perhaps has had enough experience with similar switches in the same family to allow a paper cert.

It should be the case (famous last words) that any switch correctly implementing LACP should "work" with APA.
