HP JetDirect Configuration
Hello all,
My co-worker is trying to configure a HP printer and he is not able to specify a host name for that printer since there are "." in the host name.
This is what he does:
host-name: QFTFP08.COMPRA.FORD.COM
and it keeps telling him that its an invalid parameter. Could someone please help.
Thanks so much for you time,
Sri

Re: HP JetDirect Configuration
If I understand your question, this is not a JetAdmin setup but rather you are trying to set the hostname of the printer itself either from a telnet session or from a Browser. You can't set (and don't need to set) fully qualified host names here. You are perfectly free to set them in your DNS tables, NIS tables, or /etc/hosts files.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: HP JetDirect Configuration
Hi Sri,
Try out with IP address and specify that IP address in the DNS Server.
OR
Configure an alias for the same printer.

Re: HP JetDirect Configuration
Hi Sri,
You don't have to specify the fully qualified name on the printer. Just put the simple name and the ip address on the printer. You can add it to the DNS with the fully qualified name and the ip address.
Hope this helps.
