Hi, has anyone had a similar problem ....
l1000 server with HP Raid 4si PCI 4 Port Ultra SCSI Raid controller, 8 18 gig disks.
Configured using Raid 1
EMS is reporting the following errors for all 4 Luns/disks presented to the server....
CURRENT MONITOR DATA:
Event Time..........: Sun Oct 7 15:05:37 2001
Severity............: SERIOUS
Monitor.............: disk_em
Event #.............: 4
System..............: L1000
Summary:
Disk at hardware path 0/3/0/1.0.0.1 : Excessive number of new
media-defects.
Description of Error:
There is an excessive number of new media-defects on this drive. The drive
must be replaced before it runs out of spare data blocks. All errors have
been recovered and no data have been lost.
Probable Cause / Recommended Action:
This drive may fail in the near future and should be replaced.
Additional Event Data:

Monitor Version.....: B.01.00
Event Class.........: I/O
Client Configuration File...........:

None
Additional System Data:
System Model Number.............: 9000/800
OS Version......................: B.11.00
STM Version.....................: A.24.00
EMS Version.....................: A.03.20
Latest information on this event:

Component Data:
Physical Device Path...: 0/3/0/1.0.0.1
Device Class...........: Disk
Inquiry Vendor ID......: I2O
Inquiry Product ID.....: RAID1
Firmware Version.......: 1.00
Serial Number..........: unavailable
Product/Device Identification Information:
Logger ID.........: disc30; sdisk

Product Qualifier.: I2O RAID1
SCSI Target ID....: 0x00
SCSI LUN..........: 0x01
I can`t beleive that all 4 disks have the same problem, I have run irdisplay and no errors are shown I suspect that EMS maybe interpreting the errors incorrectly.
Are STM version A.24.00 and EMS version A.03.20 compatable for the 4si Raid?
Thanks

SolutionYoure right, it certainly looks like an STM/EMS problem, all 4 new disks cant have the same problem. Try updating first to A.26.00 of STM (Jun2001) and see if the errors continue.

Re: HP Raid 4si disk errors
This is a known defect for the version of STM and EMS you are using. You should look to load the lates versions of STM and EMS, as well as possibly the RAID4si driver, from at least the March 2001 Application CD set.
My house is the bank's, my money the wife's, But my opinions belong to me, not HP!

Re: HP Raid 4si disk errors
Thanks for the advice.
STM and EMS have been upgraded to the latest versions, no more errors...
