Re: HPUX 9.07
I haven't touched a 9.x system for a long
time, so I know nothing, but what, exactly,
is doing the asking?
I'd expect everything to work with data from
/etc/hosts, but what do I know?

Re: HPUX 9.07
I never actually worked as an admin with this version of HP-UX, that is how old it is.
However we did run our 9.07 server at my previous job without BIND configuration as it pre-dated us actually having such servers.
If /etc/nsswitch.conf does not include DNS as a resolution method there should be no reason for the install to ask for BIND.
You might try the newest version of HP-UX certified for this workstation and get a little closer to the world of support in this matter.

Re: HPUX 9.07
Based on the way you phrased this, I assume that you don't know this is a DNS server. So if you have a DNS server you can use it for 9.07 install.
Since you are also installing 9.07, nsswitch.conf is not available, I think it became available with patches.

Re: HPUX 9.07
I have a C110 workstaion (A4200A) and I have loaded HPUX 9.07 (what my customer requested). My problem is that I can not get HP VUE to run. I am using an A4070B HCRX-8 graphics card. Any more advice is appreceated.
Thanks,
David

That's one problem. It might help if you
said more about what you did, and what
happened when you did it. Actual error
messages, for example.
VUE (like its successor, CDE) probably
expects to be able to be able to associate
a host name with an IP address. We can't see
what's in your /etc/hosts file. We don't
know if you're using DNS, and, if so, what's
in that data base. We don't know the
hostname of the system.
It's possible that there's something
suggestive in a system log file.

Re: HPUX 9.07
I'd assume so. Have you any evidence that it
isn't?
You seem willing to ask questions, but you
don't seem to answer many. Search this page
for "?" and/or "don't know".
I'm working from (dim) memory, but I'm pretty
sure that I've seen it done on some older
hardware. But that system probably had a
well-defined host name, and compatible info
in its /etc/hosts file. Knowing virtually
nothing about how you've configured your
system, exactly what you've done, and what
happened when you did it, it's tough to know
where to start guessing where to look
further.
