JFS largefiles

Why would I not want use the largefiles option when creating/mounting a JFS filesystem?

How much does it impact performance?

Re: JFS largefiles

I believe that enabling Large Files is fairly harmless. The only issue I'm aware of is interoperability. If you attempt to access a "large file" via NFSv2, or using a command (like vi, for instance) that doesn't support large files, you may run into problems. If you create the file system with "-o largefiles", but then never actually create a large file, no harm is done.

Re: JFS largefiles

Whether or not you enable large files support depends on the size that your lvol is going to be. If you are creating a logical volume that is 1500 MB, then there is no point in turning on largefile support.

If you wind up extending the lvol beyond 2 GB, then you can always go back and turn on largefile support with fsadm.
